FUJITSU TAKAMISAWA CONNECTOR CHOSEN FOR INFINIBAND ARCHITECTURE

FCN-239p.jpg (10k) SUNNYVALE, Calif. - October 23, 2000 - - Responding to the demands of distributed computing and the need for improved balance between processor speed and I/O performance, Fujitsu Takamisawa America Inc.'s MicroGigaCN (MicroGiga Connector) has been selected by the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) as the standard input/output (I/O) connector for InfiniBand's 4x and 12x I/O interface.

The MicroGiga CN offers a cost-effective I/O solution for high-speed applications in data and telecommunications convergence (voice, data, video and storage). It utilizes a 2.5 Gbit/sec wire speed connection with four or twelve wire link widths, offering a scalable performance range of 500MB/s to 6GB/s per link to meet the needs of entry-level and high-end enterprise systems. Forward crosstalk is less than 4% at 100 pico second pulse-rise time (four-pair switching).

The IBTA's objective was to develop a new common I/O specification that would deliver a channel based, switched fabric technology that the entire industry can adopt. InfiniBand Architecture offers a unique solution that benefits a wide range of industry participants from components vendors and systems suppliers to storage and networking communications firms. Ultimately, end-users receive the greatest benefit through improved price/performance, greater flexibility and scalability, and more reliable and manageable data centers.

Currently, the eight (4x) and twenty-four (12x) pair MicroGigaCN are being sampled on a limited basis. Production quantities will be available in January 2001. Pricing for the eight pair, board-mount socket and I/O plug with backshell is $15.00 in 10K-piece quantities.
