Fujitsu’s MicroGiGaCN Connector Among EDN Magazine’s Top 100 Products of 2002

Sunnyvale, Calif. - January 14, 2003 - - From the thousands of new electronic devices submitted to EDN Magazine, Fujitsu’s matched-impedance MicroGiGaCN mezzanine connector ranked as one of the Top 100 products introduced in 2002.

The publication determines the year’s top products from the many thousands of new product announcements it receives by the amount of reader interest they create. EDN Magazine notes that “only about a hundred new products each year generate real excitement.”

Fujitsu’s Marketing Manager Bob Thornton said, “EDN is such a respected electronics trade publication that to have its engineering readership respond so favorably to the MicroGiGaCN series is great validation for the product.”

The MicroGiGaCN’s board-to-board, right-angle socket was introduced in August 2002. It allows differential LVDS transmission at 3.125 Gbps and higher rates, using standard FR-4 pc-board material, thus offering a cost-savings over other connectors that require more-costly, specialty board materials to transmit high-speed signals. Applications include emerging high-speed datalink applications such as datacom/telecom, optical modules interface, video equipment, test equipment, logic analyzers, and medical instrumentation.

The mezzanine connector features 0.75-mm signal-to-ground and 1.5-mm signal-to-signal contact pitches, with an 0.5mm SMT lead pitch. It is available in 12-, 24- or 36-pair versions. Each signal pair is shielded internally, resulting in tight 10% impedance matching, and near-end crosstalk of less than 4% at 50psec rise time. The series also includes an I/O plug and cable assemblies.

Fujitsu Components America, Inc. markets and distributes electronic components throughout North and South America. Products include relays, connectors, keyboards, input and pointing devices, touch panels, thermal printers and KVM switches. The company is headquartered at 250 E.
