FUJITSU TAKAMISAWA RELEASES
3.3-VOLT PC CARD CONNECTORS

photo-story_connectors_3-3volt.jpg (72k) SUNNYVALE, Calif. - July 21, 1999 - Supporting the increasing demand for low-voltage components for mobile and wireless systems, Fujitsu Takamisawa America, Inc. (FTA) today released a series of PC Card connectors with 3.3-volt keying.

The company added the new low-voltage, surface-mount headers to its current 5v PC Card connector offering to give customers the choice of implementing either 3.3v or 5v in their system design. Available in a single-slot configuration, the connectors accommodate 3.3v Type I, II or III PC Cards.

Bob Thornton, FTA's product marketing manager for interconnects, notes that there's a growing need for low-voltage PC Card connectors because 3.3v PC Card applications are increasing in devices such as personal digital assistants, Internet readers, cellular telephones, portable test equipment and other wireless and mobile computing products.

"The implementation of low-power components, such as low voltage IC chips, in mobile systems has dramatically extended battery life, which is the driving force for using 3.3v-keyed PC Card connectors," says Thornton.

The 3.3v connectors meet JEIDA and PCMCIA standards Version 4 and provide hot plugging capability. They feature 0.050 x 0.050-inch contact spacing and a 0.5A DC rating.

Available in a right-angle configuration, the connectors are offered in lightweight, inverse-mountable, elevated and low-profile types. They also can be fitted with optional ejection mechanisms.

Fujitsu Takamisawa America, Inc. markets and distributes electronic components throughout North, Central and South America. Products include electromechanical relays, connectors, keyboards and thermal printers. The company is headquartered at 250 E. Caribbean Drive, Sunnyvale, California, 94089.
